When I imagined riding my first Unbound Gravel 200, my nightmares were full of sunshine, heat, and dust. I even started using a sauna to get heat-adapted! But reality often has a way of subverting our expectations. Like many racers this year, I obsessively checked the weather and hoped for dry conditions. But 100 miles in, my hopes were dashed. Thunderstorms transformed the latter half of the course into a muddy hell-scape. For some, it was a nightmare, for others, an opportunity. Either way, it was perhaps the dirtiest, most memorable Unbound ever. And you know what, I actually had a really good day and even beat the sun!
